Psychotherapy often looks at unhelpful patterns of behaviour and ways of relating to others which stem from our past.
We learn how to manage our feelings and relate to other people from the moment we are born and cared for. We continue to have experiences as we grow up that shape how we feel about ourselves and other people. Some of our experiences are less than ideal and sometimes the things we learn are unhelpful to us in later life.
In this way past experiences may be limiting your choices now, causing difficulties in relationships and leaving you feeling anxious or unhappy. Psychotherapy can then be a place for you to feel differently in relationship and to develop new ways of thinking and behaving which you can take into every day life.
